Panjakavya Vilakku
The Panjakavya lamp is made from milk, curd, ghee, cow urine, and cow dung. The lamp should be lit using a wick made from the arka plant (Calotropis gigantea). Once the lamp is lit, it should not be extinguished until it has completely burned down to ashes. By allowing the lamp and the Panjakavya mixture to burn completely, it is said to purify the home akin to performing a yagna (sacred fire ritual). After the lamp has burned and turned to ashes, these ashes should be mixed with coconut oil and applied to the forehead. This practice is believed to remove negative planetary influences (Navagraha dosha) and bring prosperity and well-being to the family.
